Who is the MSZ-HR42VFK for?
It is Mitsubishi Electric’s entry-level range: a compact, reliable wall-mounted split for a room of 25-35 m², typically a large living room. It makes sense if you want the brand at the best price and will mainly use it for cooling in summer.
- Built-in Wi-Fi with Mitsubishi Electric’s MELCloud app, compatible with Alexa: switch it on or off and change the temperature from your phone.
- A++ for cooling (SEER 6.5) and A+ for heating (SCOP 4.3): it is a heat pump, so it also heats in winter.
- 24 dB(A) at its lowest speed.
- Econo Cool mode: adjusts the airflow according to the outlet air temperature. According to Mitsubishi Electric, it lets you raise the set point by up to 2 °C without losing comfort and improves efficiency by 20%.
- Silver-ion air filter, auto restart after a power cut and a compact indoor unit: 280 × 838 × 228 mm (height × width × depth).

If budget comes first, the MSZ-HR42VFK is the cheapest of the three and more than enough for summer cooling. The MSZ-AY42VGK is worth it if you will also use it for heating (SCOP 4.7 and works down to -20 °C) or if quietness is the priority (21 dB versus 24). The MSZ-EF42VGK is the design option, with three finishes.

- Indoor unit noise at its lowest speed; at top speed it reaches 45 dB(A). The outdoor unit gives 50 dB(A).
- Operating range
- Heats with outdoor temperatures down to -10 °C.
- Pipework
- Allows up to 20 m of pipe between units (12 m height difference). The price includes 3 m.

What can change the price
The price is fixed for a standard installation. These cases are quoted separately, in writing and before we start:
- More than 3 m of piping between the indoor and outdoor units.
- Special brackets, a roof base or work at height.
- Condensate pump if there is no drain nearby.
- Chasing, building work or longer decorative trunking.
- New electrical line from the consumer unit.

Can it also be used for heating? Yes, it is a heat pump and heats with outdoor temperatures down to -10 °C. If you will use it a lot in winter, the AY series performs better for heating.
