A thermal storage heater is an electric heating appliance that charges energy during off-peak tariff hours (typically overnight) and releases it gradually throughout the day. It is the standard solution for heating rooms in buildings without a gas supply, in holiday properties, in commercial spaces where combustion appliances cannot be installed, or as a supplementary heat source alongside an existing heating system.

At JAG Alcaide we distribute the Junkers Elaflu thermal storage heater range in Barcelona. We are official Junkers Bosch distributors and stock both models in the range: the Elaflu Excellence with domotics connectivity for more sophisticated installations, and the standard Elaflu for conventional domestic use. Prices are shown in the tables below, VAT included.

When is it the right choice?

A thermal storage heater makes sense when there is no gas supply available in the building or room, installing a gas appliance or a split air conditioner is not viable or not economically justified, you want to heat a specific room or zone independently, or your property has a time-of-use electricity tariff that makes overnight energy storage economically attractive. It is not the most efficient solution for heating an entire home with intensive daily use — in that scenario, a gas boiler or aerothermal system is generally more cost-effective in the long run.

Frequently asked questions about thermal storage heaters

What is the difference between a thermal storage heater and a conventional electric radiator?

A thermal storage heater charges energy into a high-density core (typically ceramic or magnetite) during off-peak tariff hours and releases it gradually throughout the day. A conventional electric radiator consumes energy at the same moment it heats, with no storage. For users with a time-of-use electricity tariff, a thermal storage heater can be significantly more economical for day-to-day running costs.

How many watts do I need to heat a room?

As a rough guide, between 80 and 100 W per square metre is typical for standard insulation conditions. A 10 m² bedroom needs approximately a 1,000 W model (ERO 1000). For poorly insulated spaces, rooms with high ceilings or large areas of glazing, it is advisable to increase the output. We can advise on the right model before purchase.

Can the Elaflu Excellence be linked with other heaters?

Yes. The Excellence model includes domotics cable connectivity, allowing one heater to act as a master unit and coordinate the operation of other heaters in the same range connected to it. It is the solution for centralised multi-room heating management without a gas installation.

Do the Junkers heaters require specialist installation?

The standard Elaflu model includes an integrated plug cable and can be connected directly to a standard 220V socket. The Excellence model requires a fixed connection to the electrical installation if it is to be integrated into a domotics system. JAG Alcaide can advise on the most appropriate setup for your intended use.
